Introducing ZT Digital Load Cells: Revolutionizing Truck Scales
After a year-long, in-depth development process examining existing industry standards, we are excited to announce that Avery Weigh-Tronix is adding a digital load cell option to our industry-recognized BridgeMount series of truck scales. Today, we have partnered with Michelli to introduce our end customers to some of the impressive features of our new ZT Digital Load Cells.
First, let’s look at some technical specifications of the ZT Digital Load Cells and the BridgeMount series. Avery Weigh-Tronix’s ZT Digital Load Cells are hermetically sealed high-accuracy digital compression canister cells with integrated class four lightning protection and rocker columns with a 66,000 lb. capacity. They are factory pre-calibrated and manufactured at the industry standard height of 7.87 in., making them ideal for weighbridge truck scale applications like the BridgeMount series. Furthermore, all ZT Digital Load Cells are approved to NTEP Class III L, 10,000dand OIML R60, C6 6,000 verification intervals. The installation and servicing of these new cells are made easier thanks to the ZT Digital Load Cells being connected directly to a secure bus network, making dedicated junction boxes or termination connectors obsolete. Furthermore, our new design simplifies the cable routing and connection process. This keeps the connectors away from adverse environmental conditions (e.g., debris, dust, and water ingress) and allows each cell and connection to be individually accessible for inspection/calibration. Additionally, to make our ZT Digital Load Cells as durable as possible for our end-customers, each digital load cell will continue to function in a limited capacity when one sensor fails (only for use for Not for Trade Approved functions).
As mentioned above, the Digital Load Cells are part of our BridgeMount series truck scales. These outstanding truck scales incorporate advanced engineering and production technology to produce a high-quality truck weighing system. They feature a Gross Capacity of between 45 to 135 tons. With an “r” Factor of 2.65, the BridgeMount series scales can safely handle twice the legal highway axle load limit of 34,000 lb. Using between thirteen heavy-duty 8″ and 10.125″ wide flange beams, the BridgeMount Truck Scales feature compact yet structurally superior design. Furthermore, with profiles between 11.25″ and 14″, the compact, efficient design of the BridgeMont series allows for greater approach and exit requirements without sacrificing the end customer’s total confidence in the integrity of the weighbridge.
The absence of grout plates and the drilled-in-place anchor bolts on the BridgeMount series means simple, low-cost installation and relatively easy repositioning. Our factory assembly processes further minimize installation time and costs and ensure consistent product quality. Because of these factors, it made sense to include the new ZT Digital Load Cells in these particularly versatile truck scales. The high-strength characteristics and low elevation profile of the BridgeMount series make the ideal replacement units for other brands of worn-out scales on existing foundations. Each scale is fully factory assembled, pre-calibrated, and performance tested to exacting NIST, NTEP, and ISO specifications prior to shipment. When it comes to servicing and repairs, a reinforced 2′ x 2′ maintenance hole includes a heavy-duty cover to maintain weighbridge/digital load cell integrity. The all-steel surfaces are sandblasted to SSPC-6 industry standards and coated with a high-quality industrial-grade urethane primer and acrylic polyurethane. Note that galvanizing is available for all BridgeMount Models, including the ZT Digital Load Cell Model.
Additional Features
Some additional features to keep in mind when considering the new BridgeMount Truck Scale with ZT Digital Load Cells are its indicator compatibility, enhanced calibration, and ghosting function. The new BridgeMount Truck Scale with ZT Digital Load Cells was designed from the ground up to be compatible with our ZM605/ZM615 series Indicators. These indicators can accommodate up to two ZT/ZM Interface Cards. Each interface card can support up to 16 ZT Digital Load Cells and has built-in lightning protection. The hardware in these indicators allows for advanced data capture and process controls. To ensure that the truck scale decks are level and standing on their static balance point, calibrating a BridgeMount Truck Scale with ZT Digital Load Cells is simple. This feature displays the dead weight on each cell before performing the calibration. If required, the ZT Digital Load Cell alignment can then be adjusted to evenly balance the platform’s dead weight and prevent any problems with repeatability and calibration errors. Ghosting detects one faulty weight sensor output, isolates the weight sensor, and replaces the faulty sensor output with a simulated replacement. It can allow a scale to keep functioning at a limited capacity until your service provider can make repairs. The “Ghost” alert will pop up on the ZM605/ZM615 screen, and the “Non-Legal Weight” message will be printed on any tickets. For reference only, the tests conducted by Avery Weigh-Tronix demonstrate that the accuracy of a uniformly distributed load may vary by ±4%. There has been a lot of technical jargon until now, so what does all this mean for end customers?
The BridgeMount Truck Scale with ZT Digital Load Cells is a powerful and versatile truck weighing system that can easily meet the needs of almost any customer. Their compact and efficient design allows for greater approach and exit requirements and relatively easy repositioning. Furthermore, our use of front-to-back manufacturing principles and factory calibration means simple, low-cost installation for our end customers. These features, combined with features like our indicator compatibility, enhanced calibration, and ghosting function, make the BridgeMount Truck Scale an easy pick for most truck-weighing applications. The features outlined above combine to make the ZT series among the most robust digital load cells on the market today and offer benefits that our end customers can use to enhance their processes. We hope you have enjoyed getting a preview of our new ZT Digital Load Cells. Stay tuned for more information about ZT Digital Load Cells coming to more Avery Weigh-Tronix products.
